Contemporary

Contemporary and Lyrical Dance are interpretive forms of expression.

These disciplines use applied techniques that borrow from ballet, jazz, modern, and other world dance forms.

In Contemporary Dance you see strong leg work, floor work, fall and recovery, as well as improvisation.

In Lyrical Dance the quality of movement is closely connected to the style of music and the interpretation of the lyrics. The dance form possesses a fluid quality, but also uses the dynamics and accents of the music to convey the emotions of the song and communicate the story to the audience.

Both of these integrated forms allow a great deal of freedom and self-expression.

*FLBA offers Contemporary/Lyrical classes to dancers age 10 and up. Both require ballet as a prerequisite.
